Content marketing do’s

This is the second and final blog of a two-part blog series. The first blog entitled ‘Content marketing don’ts’ focused on things that content marketers should avoid doing. This blog, however, will be focusing on the things that content marketers should be doing.

Content marketing can, at times, be complex. However, it is often viewed as a straight forward type of marketing which can lead to huge mistakes being made.

To ensure none of those mistakes ever happen to your brand, here are three content marketing do’s:

Do…

Create a content marketing strategy

A content marketing strategy is kind of like a map. It helps guide you through your content marketing and gives you a direction to go in. It also helps you navigate in the event of a crisis or ‘rough’ time. Once your brand has created a content marketing strategy, you need to stick to it. By sticking to this strategy, you will be able to keep all of your content aligned. Therefore ensuring that you also create a brand image.

Keep up to date on what’s happening in the industry

You need to stay current when it comes to content marketing; to do this, you need to stay informed about what is happening in your specific industry. This way, you will be able to pick up on trends, what subjects are popular and what new research has been published. By doing this, you will be able to leverage the industry news to create content that is both relevant and interesting to your audience. This will also mean that people will start to turn to you as a source of credible information and therefore making you a thought leader in the industry. This means that consumers will turn to you for advice on what to buy and what trends to ignore or embrace.

Focus on quality over quantity

When it comes to content marketing, it is important to remember quality over quantity. This means that it is better to post less as long as your content is of high quality. As a content marketer, it is essential not to overcrowd your website, and social media feeds with low-grade content. This is known as polluting your content. There is no point in posting every day if your content is not quality information. Therefore make sure everything that goes out is of high quality and is content your brand is proud of.

Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.
