How to Win More Followers on Social Media: Part 2

With social media, you need to have the right followers, but you also need to have lots of them! It is a rare case of quality and quantity both being vital.

Yet increasing the number of people who follow you on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and other social media platforms ca be a challenge. At Digital Cloud, we’ve gone and looked at what makes some people attract loads of followers and boiled it down to the basics. Here are some more great tips on how to increase your social media following.

Avoid overload

Although you need to post frequently to establish yourself as a presence and engage on a regular basis, there is a flipside. Growing your following also means holding on to your existing followers and not losing them. One of the easiest ways to cheese people off and make them unfollow you is to swamp the with bursts of posts. You simply cannot post too many updates all at once. It shows lack of consideration, desperation, bad timing and an overload of exposure – none of these good and certainly none of them reason to love you more. If you can’t log on and post regularly by normal means, use a scheduler like Buffer.

Social media marketing is the process of reaching prospects and customers, and acquiring traffic and visibility through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many others. By utilizing the social aspect of the web, social media marketing is able to connect and interact on a much more personalized and dynamic level than through traditional marketing.

People like a freebie

Research has shown that more than half of followers respond extremely well to special offers – in fact, it’s the reason they follow. (In all fairness, about 55% of people follow a brand because they like it, and just over 50% because they want to stay up to date … so there’s no need to get too cynical yet!) This means that by offering special offers, discounts, freebies, promotions and exclusive content, you’ll attract followers. In a nutshell: If you give things away, and they will come!

Become the top dog

Famous people, leaders, gurus, experts … they all have loads of followers. But it’s not just about being famous. You also need to create things. You need to make sure that people see you as an influencer, someone who is known for being at the front of trends. You need to let people see you as a leader in your industry. Mention it in your bio: call yourself an expert, an authority, a guru, a leader. Other key terms include author, founder and official and are also guaranteed to grab the attention.

Gaining more followers is the ultimate goal of social media marketing – after all, it’s an audience you’re after and the bigger the audience, the bigger the reach of your brand. But it’s clear that those flowers aren’t going to find themselves – you need a comprehensive social media strategy and a commitment to do the hard work and put in the hours.
